Former Apple techie to be in-charge of Delhi govt’s WiFi project
NEW DELHI: A former Apple executive and now Aam Aadmi Party legislator Adarsh Shastri will be in-charge of the Arvind Kejriwalled government’s free WiFi project that attracted a large number of youth towards the party.
Party sources said that Shastri will soon be sworn in as parliamentary secretary to the Delhi Chief Minister and will be given the job exclusively to implement the key free WiFI project.
Shastri had joined the AAP before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and had contested the assembly polls from the Dwarka assembly constituency.
“Arvind is keen that the WiFi project is implemented at the earliest to showcase that the government is keen to fulfill its promises,” a senior party spokesperson said. And for that the Information Technology department will report to Shastri and he will work in close coordination with the Chief Minister, who has not taken any portfolio. Party leaders also said that money will not be a problem to implement the project.
Party sources said that other AAP legislators will also be sworn in as parliamentary secretaries and made in-charge of departments and projects to fulfill Kejriwal’s promises. Their names would be announced soon, a party leader said.
Earlier in its election manifesto, the Aam Aadmi Party had promised free WiFi in public spaces across the Capital city to boost education, business, employment opportunities and public safety. This was the poll promise that had drawn a large number of young voters to the party. HTC
