Permits for autos between Delhi, Haryana this week
CONNECTIVITY BOOST Transport dept to hand out about 1,000 permits for autos to ply in towns of Faridabad, Gurgaon, Sonepat
NEW DELHI: The transport department from this week will start giving out permits to about 1,000 applicants to run their auto-rickshaws between Delhi and towns of Faridabad, Gurgaon, Sonepat among others in Haryana, finally making the service between the two states a reality.
Once the permits are given, the applicants will have to buy auto-rickshaws, get fare meters and global positioning system (devices) installed before applying for the registration of the vehicle.
“We hope the auto-rickshaws will start running between Delhi and Haryana by end of February. After the permits are given, it takes not more than a week to complete the remaining formalities,” a transport department official said.
According to officials, about 1,600 applications were received. After the verification of documents, the department found that about 1,000 applications were eligible. A list of eligible applicants was released last week.
These autos will have a purple-coloured horizontal strip in the centre of green colour with “NCR auto for Haryana” written inside for easy identification. Illuminated LCD display board will have to be installed on top of the auto-rickshaw clearly indicating that they have NCR permits.
While Delhi government had signed agreements with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh for seamless movement of auto-rickshaws in NCR area in 2009, there were several technical difficulties that prevented the government from inviting applications from people interested in driving NCR autos. It was in December 2014 that the department finally rolled out the scheme and kept 5,500 permits aside for Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
Officials said, now more than 3,100 people have applied for permits for Uttar Pradesh. “We are verifying these applications. We hope to come out with a list of successful applicants soon,” an official said.
The Uttar Pradesh autorickshaws will have a three-inch orange coloured horizontal strip in the centre of green colour of the auto-rickshaw and have “NCR auto for Uttar Pradesh” written in white colour inside the strip.
