FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS AND POLICE HAD DECLARED A REWARD OF `50,000 FOR ANY INFORMATION ON HIM

NEW DELHI: A 31-year-old science graduate was arrested by Delhi Police’s crime branch on Saturday for allegedly murdering his ex-girlfriend in outer Delhi’s Vijay Vihar in 2011.

The accused had been on the run for the last three years and the police had declared a reward of `50,000 for any information on him.

Police identified the accused as Ram Kumar, a resident of Ghazipur. Kumar murdered his 26-year-old girlfriend who he claimed was forcing him to continue their relationship despite his marriage being fixed elsewhere.

While on the run, Kumar stayed in Howrah and Asansol in West Bengal and did petty jobs. He later returned to Kanpur in UP and started living there on a fake identity.

Ravindra Yadav, joint CP (crime), said Kumar was arrested from south Delhi’s Pushp Vihar area by a team led by ACP KPS Malhotra, under the leadership of additional CP Ashok Chand on Saturday.

“The woman, who was married at the time of her murder, was found dead at a house in Vijay Vihar, where Kumar also lived as a tenant,” Yadav said.

During investigations, it was revealed that the woman reportedly had a close relationship with Kumar. Further probe later established that Yadav had killed the woman. Several teams were formed to trace him and raids were conducted at his native place and other suspected hideouts, but he managed to evade arrest.

Kumar’s interrogation has revealed that he had completed BSc (Biology) and come to Delhi in 2007 to earn a livelihood. He started working as a medical representative, during which time he came in contact with the woman, who was an employee at a clinic in Sector 3, Rohini, Delhi. They developed a relationship. But Yadav’s marriage later was fixed with someone else after which he started ignoring the woman.

“The victim was not happy aof contention between them and led to frequent fights, police said.

“On December 4, 2011, around 10 am, the woman came to Kumar’s house where a little scuffle ensued between them over the issue. He later strangulated her to death. Then he locked the room and fled to his native place leaving the dead body behind,” said Yadav.
