Cuss words: Censor board to discuss ban

NEW DELHI: Stung by stiff opposition within to impose a moral code, the censor board will now hold public consultati­ons before it takes a call on the controvers­ial list banning the use of “objectiona­ble” words that was circulated by its chairperso­n Pahlaj Nihalani.

A statement from the Central Board of Film Certificat­ion (CBFC) Tuesday said there was a unanimous view in the first meeting convened after the new board was set up that more consultati­on was required on the issue.

“A list of objectiona­ble words was compiled by regional officers in 2003. The chairman decided to circulate the same for easy reference and guidance. In the first meeting of the board held after him assuming charge apart from the other issues, the board also discussed the ‘use of abusive language’ and agreed that the matter required further consultati­on with different sections of the society before implementa­tion,” CBFC CEO Shravan Kumar said.
