Kejriwal likely to move to Civil Lines
NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is likely to shift to a four-bedroom official residence at 6 Flagstaff Road, Civil Lines, after his son’s exams around March, sources said.
The house that Kejriwal is likely to occupy has two lawns, a drawing and dining area and two servant quarters. It is the official residence of the Delhi assembly Speaker and was earlier occupied by former Speaker Prem Singh from Congress.
Kejriwal, an MLA from the New Delhi constituency stayed in Tilak Lane when he first became CM. He is now likely to shift away from his constituency in his second stint as CM.
“He liked the Speaker’s residence and it has adequate space on the lawns, which can be used to meet the public or to hold janta darbar. At the same time, he didn’t want a big bungalow. No one is living in the house currently and will require minimum renovation or repair,” said a senior Delhi government official.
During her 15-year term as chief minister, Sheila Dikshit had lived in two different houses. She had stayed in a duplex bungalow on Mathura Road opposite Pragati Maidan till 2004 and then moved to a palatial 3, Moti Lal Nehru Marg bungalow, which had five bedrooms, huge lawns, servant quarters and office space for her personal staff.
The Moti Lal Nehru Marg house has now been allotted to former PM Manmohan Singh. Two BJP chief ministers, Madan Lal Khurana and Sahib Singh Verma, were allotted duplex houses at Sham Nath Marg in Civil Lines area in North Delhi.
