Seven arrested for murder of goldsmith in Karol Bagh

NEW DELHI:A fortnight night after a 21-year-old goldsmith was shot dead and 700 grams of gold was looted from his shop by a group of criminals in Karol Bagh, the central Delhi police on Tuesday arrested seven people, including two goldsmiths and a jeweller, for the crime.

The police are probing the involvemen­t of two women. The arrested persons have been identified as Subrat alias Bacchu, Babloo, Ajay, Chandan, Ankit, Babu and Nitin.

Police said the crime was planned by Babu and Bacchu. Both of them are goldsmiths who runs shops in the same locality. Nitin, the jeweller, bought the robbed gold items.

The crime happened on the night of March 3 in Beadonpura area, barely two hours after a 45-year old businessma­n was held hostage along with his four associates and robbed of `2 crore by six armed men inside his office in Raigarpura.

Since both the crimes happened within a distance of 700 metres, several traders and businessme­n held a protest outside the Karol Bagh police station against the two cases.

The protestors shouted slogans against the police. As many as five teams of the central Delhi police comprising 30 investigat­ing officers, including two ACPs and five inspectors, were tasked to solve the case.
