PM seeks urgent reports in WB rape case, Haryana church attack
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought immediate reports on the Ranaghat nun gang rape case and attack on a church in Haryana.
The PMO also tweeted on Tuesday morning: “PM is deeply concerned about the incidents in Hisar, Haryana and Nadia, West Bengal.”
Hours later, the Lok Sabha saw heated exchanges between the Opposition and the ruling MPs in Lok Sabha over rise in communal incidents.
“PMO has asked for immediate report on facts & action taken regarding the incidents in Haryana & West Bengal,” said another tweet.
In Lok Sabha, the Opposition benches erupted in protests over the growing incidents of communal violence and attacks, especially on churches. But while the Congress and the Trinamool jointly attacked the BJP over vandalising church in Haryana, the two parties came to loggerheads over the brutal rape of the 71-year-old nun in West Bengal.
Congress’ Adhir Chowdhury said, “The House should condemn it (rape of the nun) in a unilateral voice. Even all the molesters were caught on CCTV camera but no one has been arrested so far. It is the callousness of the state government. Even the CM was gheraoed by the mob.”
CPI(M)’s Md Salim chipped in to take potshots at the Trinamool. “Never before, this could have been imagined or thought of but despite the assurance given by the state administration, even after 70 hours no arrest has been made.”
Parliamentary affairs minister M Venkaiah Naidu led the counter charge as he accused the Congress of playing “communal politics”. He pointed that the state governments are in charge of the law and order even as he denounced BJP leader Subramanian Swamy’s controversial statement about mosques.
