POLICE HAVE REPORTEDLY FORMED A TEAM TO LOOK INTO THE ALLEGATION AGAINST OFFICERS WHO REFUSED TO REGISTER A COMPLAINT

KOLKATA: A 25-year old woman on Tuesday lodged a complaint of gang rape by a youth and his associate in Lake Town on March 9. The complaint was lodged with a senior police official of Bidhannagar Commissionerate after Lake Town police allegedly declined to receive a complaint on Monday.

Police have detained two people in this connection but the main accused, Gulshan Kumar Choudhury, has still not been arrested.

According to police sources, Choudhury telephoned the victim and asked her to come to his flat on March 9, allegedly threatening to upload her objectionable photographs on the internet if she didn’t comply.

The woman went to his flat where she was forced to consume some drinks laced with drugs.

She fell unconscious and after regaining consciousness, she found that she was raped and was surrounded by the accused and one of his associates.

On her return home, she narrated the matter to her family members, who in turn, went to the Kalindi police phari and Lake Town police station on March 10 to lodge a complaint of gang rape but the policemen, both in Kalindi and Lake Town, refused to receive a complaint.

Finally, the family members gathered courage on Monday and went to the office of the ADCP Bidhannagar, and lodged a complaint.

Debasish Dhar, ADCP, Bidhannagar Commissionerate reportedly formed a team to look into the allegation against some police officers who had allegedly refused to take a complaint from the victim.

“Investigations are on and the law will take its own course,” Dhar told media.
