Former CAG removed as head of DPS society
NEW DELHI: VK Shunglu, the former comptroller and auditor general of India, was abruptly removed as the chairman of the Delhi Public School Society (DPSS) on Saturday.
An official from the DPSS secretary office confirmed his removal. “The decision was taken day before yesterday (Saturday),” said an official from the DPSS office. However, he refused to divulge the reason behind it.
DPSS is a non-profit society with over 100 schools under its umbrella in India and abroad, apart from nine core schools and its affiliates in Delhi alone.
The same official, who refused to share his name, said, “The reason will be known when the time is right. As of now, I cannot tell you anything.”
The director of the society, Renu Mittal, however, said she was unaware of Shunglu’s removal as the chairman.
“I have been travelling so I really do not know about this. It can be confirmed from the society office,” said Mittal.
Shunglu, a retired IAS officer, was elected as DPSS chairman in January 2014, by a one vote margin. He succeeded A DPSS OFFICIAL
another retired IAS officer Ashok Chandra.
The former chairman had challenged his removal in the Delhi High Court on the ground that the vote cast by late writer Khushwant Singh had gone missing.
The court refused to put a stay and okayed appointment of Shunglu.
In January this year too, during the annual general meeting, some life-time members of the society had alleged violations by the current management, including chairman Shunglu.
Shunglu, during his tenure as a bureaucrat, had headed several high-profile committees like the one that probed the Commonwealth Games (CWG) scam and the committee on displacement caused by the Sardar Sarovar Dam.
