Auto driver rapes six-year-old girl in Shastri Park

NEW DELHI: A teenager auto driver raped a six-year-old her in northeast Delhi’s Seelampur on Wednesday evening, police said.

Police said the accused Shekhawat, 19, who is known by his first name, has been arrested. He lives in Shastri Park area and the victim is his neighbour.

On Wednesday, when the girl was playing near her house, the accused lured her with a ride in his auto. The girl readily agreed.

“He took the girl to an isolated spot and raped her several times inside the vehicle,” said a police official.

The accused then took the girl back to her house, dropped her there, and escaped. The girl was hurt and couldn’t walk. She was found by a passerby who informed her parents, the officer said.

The family of the girl, in the meanwhile, went looking for her. When they couldn’t find her, they approached the police. The cops started searching for the girl.

It was alleged that the girl had been injected with a sedative but senior police officers did not confirm it.

The family of the victim claimed that when she was brought home she was in a semiconscious state, suggesting she had been intoxicated. POLICE OFFICIAL

The girl’s family rushed her to the nearby Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. A medical examination confirmed sexual assault.

Sources in the hospital said the girl sustained serious injuries and her condition is critical. One of the doctors said she may have been injected with a sedative, which complicated her condition.

Senior police officials said a case had been registered at the Seelampur police station under Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant sections of the IPC.

DCP (North East) Veenu Bansal confirmed the arrest of the accused, Shekhawat. “We are further investigating the matter to establish the chain of events so that we could prepare a watertight case against the accused,” he said.
