Gang that supplied fake passport papers busted
NEW DELHI: Five members of a gang that provided forged verification certificates and other documents to procure passports under the Tatkal scheme have been arrested by the economic offences wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police crime branch.
Rakesh Kumar Dubey, 34, Jitender Singh, 36, Shatrunjay Singh alias Rachit, 27, Amit Sahu alias Guddu, 41 and Mujeebur Rehman, 48, were arrested on Thursday. The action came on complaint by the Regional Passport Officer, Delhi.
BK Singh, DCP (EOW), said: “During scrutiny of the verification certificates of about 60 applicants who were issued passports last year, it was found that the documents submitted by them were prepared using forged letterheads by the agents who facilitated the filing of the applications,” said Singh. The applicants who had submitted such certificates were examined by the police who told the cops that the agents charged extra for submitting the applications. Based on the inputs received by the applicants, police apprehended Dubey from Vasant Vihar. His interrogation led the police to other accused.
