NEW DELHI: A senior director of the Railway Recruitment Board has written to the police about a possible job recruitment scam in which a fake email address of the Indian Railways was used to dupe numerous people.

Some of the documents used to cheat the victims were allegedly uploaded on the official Indian Railway website, suggesting that the accused may have hacked it.

The police have registered a case of cheating and other sections of the IT Act against unidentified people. The appointment letters of the victims handed to the police - are shown to have been signed by Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu.

The incident came to light last week when the minister’s office received letters from some officials to check about certain appointments signed by the office. The minister’s office forwarded the letters to the Railway Recruitment Board to check if any such recruitment had been taken place.

The officials at the recruitment board found that the documents had been forged after which one of the directors filed a complaint with Delhi Police.

The victims had been provided identity cards and train tickets to come to Delhi to join the railways. In the letters handed to the police, the victims have been shown to be referred for the jobs from the ministry of urban development.

The victims have been contacted and asked to join the investigation. Police sources said the victims claimed there were many others who had been cheated in the name of providing a job. According to the complaint filed by the railways, the victims had deposited money as training fees in a State Bank of India account.
