The Satyam saga is a warning to other business houses
The conviction of B Ramalinga Raju, former chairman of Satyam Computer Services, and nine others, including two family members, of seven years’ rigorous imprisonment with a hefty fine is an indication that the wheels of justice may grind slowly but in the end nobody is above the law. It is also a warning to those business houses that follow unethical business practices. The tragedy is that the passive and unsuspecting share-holders happily receive hefty dividends on their investments till they suddenly become worthless one day. It is also a message to the government to tighten laws to discourage corporate czars who in public perception are known to influence policies to suit themselves to the detriment of the country’s interest.
