The death of Richie Benaud is a loss for the game of cricket

-

The Australian cricketer, a veteran of 63 Test matches, and television commentator Richie Benaud has died at the age of 84. I remember seeing him with a `20 season ticket for the fifth Test between India and Australia, which ended in a draw at Eden Gardens in January 1960. This was the Test where ML Jaisimha became the first player to bat on all five days of a Test match. Though skipper Benaud took seven wickets in the Test, it was his captaincy, field placement and his respect towards his opponents that earned everyone’s admiration. His death is a great loss.
