NEW DELHI: A Class 7 student of the prestigious Ramjas School in north Delhi has gone to the police accusing a teacher of molesting and sexually harassing her, prompting a series of similar complaints from angry parents.

An FIR was registered on Saturday, a day after the 13-yearold girl confided in her parents about the incident that took place a week ago on the school premises in Anand Parbat. She alleged the computer teacher had held her captive in the computer lab and molested her, touching her inappropriately and clicking her pictures with his mobile phone. She said he often passed lewd remarks and stared at her, and that other girls had also been subjected to this harassment, the police said.

The teacher, Vinod Kumar, was detained later in the night after a case under the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered, the police said.

Earlier, angry parents joined the victim’s family in a protest outside the co-ed school and met the principal. They alleged 14 more students had been sexually harassed by Kumar, who joined the school only on April 1, and that many of the girls weren’t even attending classes as a result. Some also said this wasn’t the first such incident to occur in the school.

Sources also said another student had filed a complaint with the police on Saturday, but the cops said they had received just one complaint.
