NEW DELHI: In an apparent case of road rage, a 25-year-old man was brutally assaulted in Outer Delhi’s Narela on Sunday evening, after his bike grazed a woman.

Police said the man was allegedly assaulted with glass bottles and sustained severe head injuries.

The victim, identified as Ashish, was on his way back home in Gautam Colony when his bike grazed a woman, who was buying vegetables at the weekly market on Narela’s Safiabad Road.

“The victim’s bike hit the woman. Local residents said, though the man apologized several times, the woman’s son came rushing in from behind and picked up an argument with the victim,” said a police officer.

According to local residents, the argument soon turned ugly and led to a scuffle, which was broken up by local residents. The accused, however, attacked Ashish as he was about to leave.

“Ashish was just starting his bike when the accused rushed in with a crate of (glass) soft drinks bottles and assaulted him several times on the head and shoulder,” said a local resident.

The accused later fled the scene, with local residents alerting the police, after which the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital. He was later referred to LNJP when his condition deteriorated.

“We are still investigating the case and waiting for the victim’s statement to lodge a complaint,” said DCP (outer) Vikramjit.
