NEW DELHI: The three men, accused of raping a 5- year-old girl in Anand Vihar recently, were reportedly consuming alcohol and having a party when one of them spotted the girl playing in the area and planned to get her to the room.

The girl, who was alone at home at the time as her parents were away at work was allegedly taken to the room on the second floor of the building, raped and dropped back to her house. The men who allegedly dragged the girl to the room were known to the family and frequented their house.

Speaking to HT, one of the relatives said that the news came as a shock as the three men were known to the family and often took care of the child when her parents were away. “They often came to the house. As two of them are married and live in the building with their families, the girl’s mother trusted them and often used to ask them to take care of the girl,” a relative said.

According to locals, the three men were consuming alcohol and singing songs when one of them came downstairs for something and saw the girl playing outside her house. None of the locals objected to the girl going with him as they were known to the family.

The locals sensed that something was wrong only after they heard the girl shouting for help. “As the girl started to bleed, the men got scared and dropped her to her house,” a local said.

Two of the accused are reportedly labourers.

The men were booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
