NEW DELHI: Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday sought to know what steps Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung were taking to ensure women’s safety in the Capital, while pushing yet again his repeated demand for the control of Delhi Police.

In the wake of mounting furore over the rape of two girl children here, he sought a meeting with the PM to discuss Delhi’s prevailing conditions, and said the PM should “either act himself” or give the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government the authority over law and order in the Capital.

“PM sir, give control of delhi police to del govt for one year. If situation does not improve, take it back...Seeking time to meet LG n PM to discuss women safety in Delhi,” he said in a series of tweets.

While full statehood to Delhi has been one of its major demands, the AAP has also been pushing for control of the Delhi Police which currently reports to the Union home ministry through the L-G.

Meanwhile, a meeting has been scheduled for Sunday at the L-G’s house which will be attended by Kejriwal and Delhi Police officials.

The CM slammed Delhi BJP in-charge Shyam Jaju for terming the two rape incidents to be minor issues in response to his attack on the PM and the L-G.

“Be it any minor issue in Delhi, Kejriwal is indulging in politics of blame-game…,” Jaju had said.

To this, Kejriwal tweeted, “Shyam Jaju says rape is a small incident? Shameful”.

Earlier, the CM visited the hospitals where the victims were being treated. NEW DELHI: Special commissioner of police

(law and order) Deepak Mishra on Saturday said that society needs to recognise the deviant and psychopathic behaviour of people responsible for committing heinous crimes such as rape and give proper moral education to such people, instead of pointing fingers at the police.

“We are doing injustice to the entire police department by not recognising what the police have done,” Mishra said. ANI Repeated rape of minors is shameful and worrying. Delhi Police has completely failed to provide safety. What are the PM n his LG doing?

Arvind Kejriwal, chief minister

When Kejriwal was in the opposition, he used to blame Sheila Dikshit for crimes against women. We want to ask him as to what he has done as CM to prevent such incidents? Ajay Maken, Congress leader

Be it any minor issue in Delhi, Kejriwal is indulging in politics of blame-game. He is not considering the fact that the people of Delhi has given him the mandate to run govt.

Shyam Jaju, BJP leader

In the last 7 days, this is third such case. I don’t get this, what is going on in Delhi... I have met the victim she has been bitten all over her body, and she was left profusely bleeding in the park.
