Amity university student shot dead
NOIDA: A 21-year-old student of Amity University was shot dead at his rented accommodation in Noida Sector 100 area on Saturday evening, the police said.
The deceased was identified as Ramaraja Sandesh, a native of Andhra Pradesh. He was a second-year BSc Marine Science student at the university.
Around 3.30 pm, some unidentified persons rang the doorbell of his flat and when Sandesh opened the door, they attackers shot him and escaped.
“Sandesh stayed at Lotus Boulevard society with his friends, students of the same university. Somebody rang the doorbell and his friend said he heard Sandesh screaming ‘Aman don’t kill me’ followed by two gun shots. He saw two persons fleeing the spot,” Vijay Dhull, assistant superintendent of police, Noida, said.
The police said Sandesh stayed with two of his friends — Madhur and Nadeem. Madhur was out for shopping when the incident happened.
“Nadeem saw the attackers. On hearing the first gunshot, he rushed towards the door but before he could come out of the room, he heard another gunshot and hid behind the door. Through a gap in the door, he saw two people fleeing. One of them was carrying an axe. Sandesh was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival,” Dhull added.
The police said there were no CCTV cameras in the society. The police matched the statements of Sandesh’s friends with the statements of other eyewitnesses and confirmed that two suspects had entered the society. But none of his friends knew about a person named Aman.
“A case was registered under Section 302 of IPC at the Sector 39 police station against one Aman and another unidentified person. The body has been sent for postmortem examination. We have recovered an axe from the spot. The body had multiple wounds,” Dhull said.
