NOIDA: Two more accused in the case of the 17-year-old girl who committed suicide in Chijarsi over repeated harassment were arrested on Sunday, with the police also registering a case against the parents of the main accused.

Prime accused Shivam Shukla, who was the deceased girl’s neighbour, and his friend Rahul Kumar were arrested from a park in Sector 63 here. They are both around 20 years old.

A car used by the accused to stalk the victim was also seized from the possession of Raja, who was nabbed on Saturday, said police.

“All of the accused were booked under IPC sections for abetting suicide and indulging in criminal conspiracy. During investigation, police also found Shivam’s parents involved in criminal conspiracy,” said Noida superintendent of police Dinesh Yadav.

Highlighting that the parents of the key accused provoked their son to teach the victim a lesson over an enmity, police said their roles would also be investigated.

Further, a major laxity on the police’s part also led the victim’s statements to them to go viral on social media.

In a statement to the investigating officer at Phase 3 police station days before she committed suicide, the girl narrated her ordeal and said she was scared to register a case as the accused may harm her brother.

Senior officials said action would be taken against the police officials concerned for leaking the evidence.

However, the parents alleged that police were not swift in acting on the complaint the first day itself.

They said that on October 12, all three accused stalked and tried to kidnap the victim in their car while she was on her way home after her school. Witnessing the scuffle between them, a passerby intervened and she managed to flee.

Later, she informed her father who took her to the police station on October 13 to register an FIR. There, police recorded her statement on mobile phone and promised action over the complaint.

After a day, when no action was taken, her father again went to the police station when a cop told him he would visit his house to investigate. But the father asked him not to do so as it would bring a bad name to the family in his locality.

“It seems that she was feeling helpless over the incident that happened to her on October 12. After we registered FIR, we were pressurised to withdraw the FIR. My daughter was afraid of attending an exam on Saturday as the accused had threatened her of dire consequences for filing the FIR against them,” said the victim’s mother.
