NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal took a jab at the Centre’s ‘Smart Cities’ initiative during an NDMC function on Sunday, saying that the priority should be to make people’s lives ‘smart’ first.

He also stressed that the whole of Delhi should be VIP area and not just the NDMC zone that is home to VVIPs

“New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is going to become a Smart City. I think no city will become smart only because of good roads. It will become smart when people’s lives also become smart. We have to make the people’s lives smart first,” Kejriwal said, after inaugurating a Public Convenience facility near Traffic Training Park under the jurisdiction of the NDMC.

The NDMC was listed in the Centre’s Smart City plan under the Smart Cities Mission earlier this year.

DELHI’S SECOND HUGE NATIONAL FLAG

Kejriwal also batted for VVIP areas all over the city after dedicating to the nation a huge National Flag installed by the council at the junction of Shantipath in New Delhi.

The flag, measuring 30 by 20 feet and made of polyester silk, was installed atop a 105 feet pole at a cost of `16 lakh. The second such flag, after the 207-feet Monumental Flag in Connaught Place installed in 2014, it will be lit at night.

Addressing the gathering, Kejriwal suggested that such flags should come up in other areas of the city too.
