BHUSHAN SAYS KEJRI’S RESPONSE EXPOSES DOUBLE STANDARDS

NEW DELHI: Former Aam Aadmi Party leader and the outfit’s erstwhile legal brain Prashant Bhushan hit out at Kejriwal on Sunday for his “weak” response to the gangrape of minors in the city.

“I remember when Nirbhaya rape happened, Arvind Kejriwal tweeted against Sheila Dikshit, who was the CM, that if the chief minister of Delhi is so helpless, then she should resign. But today he is doing the same kind of cheap politics by saying look AAP government can’t do anything about rapes in Delhi because police is not in our control. These kinds of double standards have been adopted,” Bhushan told reporters in Kochi.

He said he would support the demand for Delhi government’s control over law and order, except in diplomatic areas, central government and VIP areas, but did not believe it would change things.

“I would support it in principle, but I doubt whether Arvind Kejriwal can run Delhi Police any better than the central government,” he said. Bhushan’s criticism came alongside his allegations that Delhi’s AAP government ranked low when it came to transparency. “They don’t provide any information under RTI Act quickly,” he said.

The BJP, too, attacked Kejriwal for his comments on the Prime Minister and the Delhi Police.

“A man like him, who has spent crores of city’s tax-payers’ money on his own advertisements, and in holding events in places outside Delhi, has no moral right to question anyone else’s stand,” Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said.

“Let him set his own house in order, and then blame the police or make a remark on the PM... all his statements on this issue, I can say, are mere political skulduggery,” he said.
