NEW DELHI: The day care centre meant for the children of practicing lawyers and staff of the Supreme Court will open on November 4.

The creche has been a long overdue demand of the women lawyers and staffers of the apex court. It was meant to open in July this year, but was postponed after a writ petition challenging its fee structure and conditions was filed before the top court.

“The fee structure and condition of age limit prescribed will be subject to the outcome of the Writ Petition,” said SC’s circular dated October 17, 2015.

The Supreme Court again reiterated its invitation for applications from female candidates for the posts of crèche incharge and helpers who will be hired on contractual basis.

The move had come after the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) in January this year, announced that the Chief Justice of India HL Dattu fully supported their proposal to set up crèche inside the court premises to support and help practicing women lawyers.

“We have been assured that three rooms… will be freed up and appropriate area out of that will be converted into a crèche for the benefit of lady members of the Bar,” the SCBA circular had said.
