The selflessness of mothers makes them divine
Celebrating the festival of Navratri, devotees pray to the divine mother Durga. The goddess is worshipped in several avatars or manifestations. When we are born and learn to speak, one of the first words that a child is taught to say is ‘maa’, which in Hindi means mother, the giver of birth and the manifestation of the purest form of love. A child means the world to a mother, and the mother is the world of the child.
While making the kid learn to speak, walk and eat, a mother too becomes a child. Somewhere she forgets herself and becomes one with the child.
The kid may grow up and change, but the mother’s love remains the same. Such selflessness made me believe that every mother is divine. It’s wonderful how she expresses her love as her child goes through different stages of life.
Recently I called my mother on a weekend, cribbing that I need to make a presentation for a meeting on Monday and that my entire holiday would go in doing that.
“So you have to make something on your laptop. It’s just like computer video games. When you were young you would sit in front of the screen for several hours and enjoy. It’s just like video games all over again,” she replied.
The simplicity with which she said that transformed the way I was looking at the situation and relieved me of all the stress.
They reassured me with peace and comfort. She actually taught me a vital lesson, which is to always enjoy whatever I do. Mothers are divine. Their words can soothe the heart of a child. I bow in respect to them.
