16,000 small cos register under Udyog Aadhaar since Sept launch
MAHA, RAJASTHAN, TELANGANA AND DELHI TOPPED REGISTRATIONS. ALL OTHER STATES PUT TOGETHER ACCOUNTED FOR JUST OVER 4,200
NEW DELHI: More than one month after the introduction of Udyog Aadhaar, the simplified Aadhaar based one-page registration for Micro, Small and Medium Entreprises (MSMEs), more than 16,000 MSMEs have registered under the platform, government data shows.
The online platform, notified on September 18, aimed at simplifying registration procedure for entrepreneurs and promoting ease of doing business.
As of October 26, Maharashtra topped the list with 4,897 MSMEs, followed by Rajasthan (3,609), and Telangana (2,034).
Delhi saw registrations of 1,241 MSMEs, which is significant considering that only 2,309 MSMEs registered themselves in the eight years the introduction of Udyog Aadhaar. Apart from these four states, the rest saw registration of 1,000 units.
“The new format is quicker and user-friendly with limited documentation and multiple registration options. Considering that the government is aiming to improve India’s ranking in the ease of doing business index, this is a step in the right direction,” said R Narayan, vice-president, FICCI Confederation of MSMEs, and CEO, Power2SME.
The Udyog Aadhaar has only 14 items. The previous Entrepreneurs Memorandum form was a 15-page offline form that had more than 40 items.
The ministry of MSME estimated that in 2011-12 there were 44.7 million MSME units in the country. However, only 3.79 million of them were registered.
