Employees rewarded with perks and salary hikes
While volunteering activities contribute greatly to company profits, they also help improve employee motivation, morale and commitment. Employees participating in these activities are suitably rewarded with perks and salary hikes.
During appraisals, these employees get to list their goals and achievements and highlight their contributions as trainers. This for the company is an indication that these employees are leaders in their own right and entitled to rewards. They are then given interesting projects to handle, hefty salary hikes and other perks.
By volunteering, employees get a chance to enhance both their soft and technical skills. Of late, more and more employees are opting to use their expert skills to help those who need it. Not many are interested in raising funds for charity or in picking up brooms to clean streets.
According to a Shine.com survey, as many as 70% employees said that volunteering activities added to their company’s profits. Only 16% were unsure about how such tasks helped them improve productivity. As many as 43% employees said that participation in volunteering programmes was reflected in a salary hike after appraisals. While 29% said that they were invited to meet global leaders of their organisation, 28% said they were promoted as leaders.
Volunteering programmes also help employees when they switch jobs. Almost 36% employees said that they got huge pay hikes and weightage in their assessment when they applied for newer jobs.
These opportunities are also critical for recruitment and retention. For 53% employees, participating in these programmes instills in them a sense of pride in their work and company and encourages them to remain with their employer. While NGOs benefit from volunteering opportunities, employees get to actually reach out to communities that need help and also have a positive outlook of their employer. Only 27% said if employees had to quit they would move if they were offered better salaries and perks.
For most corporates, allowing employees to engage in voluntary activities, is an excellent way to retain younger employees and have them constantly engaged.
