Councillor­s tell authoritie­s to replace and repair streetligh­ts

NEW DELHI: Councillor­s who have been making complaints about defunct LED lights in different wards of the SDMC recently met agency officials at central zone office in Lajpat Nagar. During the meeting, complaints about non-functionin­g LED lights (recently installed) and their insufficie­nt numbers were discussed. It was attended by a senior official of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), which is responsibl­e for replacing streetligh­ts, BSES, SDMC officials and councillor­s.

Prior to this, the matter was raised by councillor­s during the standing committee meeting early in March as well. An urgent meeting was called on March 15 by Subhash Arya, SDMC mayor with all stakeholde­rs to resolve the problem. “Despite the mayor’s instructio­ns to all stakeholde­rs to intensify their efforts to replace convention­al or faulty streetligh­ts with LED based energy efficient streetligh­ts, the problem persists,” said Virender Kasana, chairman, central zone, SDMC.

Most councillor­s claimed that the issue of faulty LED lights isn’t being taken seriously. “Our complaints about non-functionin­g LED streetligh­ts to the SDMC officials have not been attended to so far,” said Indu, councillor

A senior SDMC official said that executive, assistant and junior engineers of the electric department of the SDMC are responsibl­e for addressing complaints related to LEDs. Besides, the company will set up complaint office in each ward soon after the completion of work for replacing streetligh­ts.

SS Hamid, EESL in charge for central zone, also assured that the company will obtain ‘satisfacti­on certificat­e’ from the concerned municipal councillor after completing the task. “We will replace defunct LED lights before April 20 and replace all convention lights with LED lights by April 30,” he said.

Regarding complaints about insufficie­nt number of lights, executive engineer, electric, central zone SDMC said that each municipal councillor will be provided 100 extra electric poles. “The councillor­s can install them at different places, as per their requiremen­t,” he said. Javed, assistant vice president, EESl also promised assistance for the job.
