NEW DELHI: Colony parks were reclaimed for sports as HT joined hands with resident welfare organisations (RWAs) for a tournament filled with highquality football and nail-biting moments. With over 150 participants, Vasant Kunj witnessed overwhelming response by the residents.

“Our intent to draw kids out of their homes was fulfilled. We wanted to bring sports back into the lives of both children and their parents. We are have started getting requests to arrange similar events again,” said Ramandeep Singh Bakshi, head of Vasant Kunj Children’s Committee.

For Swagwa FC, the winning team in the under-15 category, it was a Sunday well spent. The action-packed day saw 10 teams competing in two categories — under-15 and above 15. “It was motivating and interesting to see my friends and neighbours taking the sport seriously and enjoying. HT has brought parents, children and the community together,” said Shaurya Bhardwaj, goalkeeper of Swagwa FC.

Lured by the charged atmosphere on the grounds, enthusiastic parents requested for another category so that they could play. Thus, an adult category was created and residents participated in badminton and racing events.

In New Friends Colony, residents saw the tournament as an apt opportunity for channeling the children’s passion for sports. It created an atmosphere for parents to showcase their athletic talent. The children’s park in B block was filled with enthusiastic supporters and the area saw 48 registrations. Apart from football, there was an overwhelming participation for basketball where Air Jordan won by 21/15.

“I have never seen this kind of community engagement in my colony. We are looking forward to more such events. It means a lot for our kids and young members of the society,” said Madhvi Sachar, of New Friends Colony.
