NEW DELHI: Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has directed the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) to repair colonies where the families of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots stay.

“1984 victims n refugees from Punjab staying in horrible conditions. Del govt today decided to repair their houses (sic),” chief minister Kejriwal tweeted on Tuesday afternoon.

The decision to repair at least 2,000 flats in eight localities was taken in a meeting chaired by the chief minister and attended by the heads of various departments of the Delhi government.

“It was reported in the meeting that immediate repair work in common facilities in the colonies located in Tilak Vihar, Garhi, Raghubir Nagar, Sangam Park, Jahangir Puri, GT Road Shahdara, Kalkaji and Madipur is required. The Delhi government will provide funds for this work, the initial estimate of which is `10 crore. This will be revised on the basis of the actual estimate, since no attention has been paid,” said a Delhi government spokesperson.

The DUSIB has initiated the process of surveying these colonies following directions that the condition of colonies where the families of victims reside is ‘worrying and requires urgent attention’.
