NEW DELHI: Three bike-borne assailants allegedly intercepted two employees of a garment trader and snatched their bag that contained `65 lakh. The incident was reported from east Delhi’s Gandhinagar area on Monday morning.

Arun Kumar and Shyam, both employees of Rajkumar Thakural who runs Lion Garments, were on their way to Bank of Baroda, to deposit cash when three men on a bike intercepted them. The men tried to snatch the bag from them, but Shyam resisted. He was then beaten up by the men.

“The men were armed with pistols. When Shyam and Arun resisted, the assailants pushed them to the ground and kicked. While Arun was discharged after first aid, Shyam has been admitted to the hospital for treatment,” a senior police officer said.

None of the onlookers came forward to save the men as the assailants were armed. The police have registered a case of robbery and causing injury and have begun an investigation.

Thakural told the police that he had kept the cash in the shop as the bank was closed on the weekend. He trusted the two employees with the cash and had asked them to go and deposit it in the bank.

The police suspects the involvement of a former employee in the case. “It appears that someone tipped off the men after the two employees left for the bank. It is clear that the assailants knew that the bag contained a huge amount of cash. They were probably following the employees,” a senior police officer said.

The police have asked the Thakural to give them details of all his employees. “We have asked the trader to prepare a list of all his present and former employees. As part of the investigation, we will access their call records to see who they were in touch with. The CCTV footage will also be recovered from the area to ascertain the identity of the men,” an investigator said.
