The UP CM agreed that his government will bear the cost of land acquisition on UP side for the project and the CM handed over the consent letter as well.

Over two years after Union minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone of a bridge on the Yamuna river connecting Faridabad with Greater Noida, the Uttar Pradesh government approved ₹400 crore for the road-bridge project on Monday.

“I called on Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav at his residence in Lucknow on Monday where we discussed the issuewell,” Faridabad MP and Union minister of state for social justice and empowerment Krishanpal Gurjar told Hindustan Times.

“The UP CM agreed that his government will bear the cost of land acquisition on UP side for the project and the CM handed over the consent letter as well,” Gurjar said.

He added that a 19-kilometre stretch of the 24-km long road is in Haryana and a 5-km stretch will be in Uttar Pradesh. A 670metre four-lane bridge would be constructed on the Yamuna.

While the Central Government will provide ₹250 crore for the construction of the road and bridge, the remaining funds will be contributed by both the Haryana and Uttar Pradesh government.

He said after the completion of this project, commuters travelling from Rajasthan, Gurgaon, Palwal and Faridabad to Noida area will not have to enter Delhi. This will save time and help reduce pollution, he added.

Although the foundation stone carries the name of UP chief minister and PWD minister, they had skipped the ceremony on August 15, 2014. Gurjar was then the minister of state for highways and shipping under Gadkari.
