Man accused of rape free as victim retracts charge
NEW DELHI: A Delhi court has acquitted a man of the charges of raping a girl after it noted that the girl had turned hostile and was not supporting the case of prosecution.
Additional Sessions Judge D K Sharma acquitted Amit alias Bittoo of all the charges levelled against him. It noted that the prosecution was unable to bring home the guilt of the accused. It also noted that the girl was not supporting the case was prosecution.
“The accused is acquitted of all the charges,” it noted.
According to the prosecution, a case of rape was lodged against Bittoo with the South Delhi’s Vasant Vihar Police Station on the complaint of the prosecution.
The victim had alleged in the complaint that he got a call from an unknown number. She told the person that it was a wrong number, but the person often used to call her. The caller was later identified as Bittoo.
Both became friends and started meeting each other. Once Bittoo called her on the pretext of celebrating his birthday. The girl had alleged that he took her to a room where he forced himself on her. The police after getting her medical report lodged a case against the accused. During his address, Punam Suri, in honour of the soldiers announced that their wards who are students of DAV Public School, Gaya will be provided with free education. Besides this, free education has also been offered to any other ward of the soldiers studying in a DAV School.
