NOIDA: After the Supreme Court refused to put a stay on the Allahabad high court order to remove toll tax on Delhi-Noida-Direct (DND) flyway, the Noida Toll Bridge Company Limited (NTBCL) has started refunding the card users.

The company officials said commuters can now approach the customer care centre of DND at the toll plaza and get their refund. Almost 40,000 active user cards are left for refund.

For amounts below ₹500, the customer care staff will return the money in cash and for amount above ₹500, the user has to fill a form with bank details and phone number and the amount will be refunded within seven days.

“I had to return my silver card in which the balance amount was ₹161. They asked me to provide my name and phone number and my amount was returned,” said RS Rai, a resident of Noida.

The toll for one-way use of the flyway was ₹28 for four-wheelers and ₹12 for two-wheelers. There were two ways to pay toll without cash — the silver card and RFID, a tag-based system that reads tags from a distance and automatically deducts the toll.

“We have 40,000 cards of active users and of them 500 people have approached us for refund. The total pending amount cannot be ascertained right now,” said Anwar Abbasi, spokesperson, DND flyway.

“Customers need to show their card to the customer care staff and fill details after which their pending amount will be refunded. A basic amount of ₹25 as admin fee will be deducted,” he added.

“We welcome the move by the company to refund the pending amount of active commuters,” said NP Singh, president, Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Association (FONRWA).

Recently, the Allahabad High Court, acting on a PIL filed by residents, directing removal of toll tax on inter-state vehicles. The management company had approached the SC which didn’t stay the order.
