NEWDELHI: A 39-year-old man was beaten to death in outer Delhi’s Bawana after a fight over playing a drum during Diwali celebrations.

Police said Atta-Ur-Rehman died of head injuries and arrested the suspect, Sujeet, 22.

The incident took place late on Sunday night when over 200 labourers were celebrating Diwali in front of a factory in Bawana.

Around 11 pm, the labourers started dispersing from the spot and the drummers had begun packing up their instruments.

Rehman reached the spot at that time and asked the drummers to continue. But they refused, leading to an argument.

Police said Sujeet, who was standing nearby, asked Rehman to leave the drummers and go back home. Rehman, who was allegedly drunk, was infuriated and started fighting with him.

Sujeet picked up a wooden rod and hit him on his head and fled from the spot.

A passerby called the police control room. Police shifted him to MB Hospital in Pooth Khurd where doctors declared him brought dead.
