A new India is in the making, you have to identify it. What is happening in India today, you have to identify it... It is a type of mentality. It is an undemocratic type of mentality.

NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday led the Aam Aadmi Party’s charge against the BJP government at the Centre over the suicide by an ex-serviceman, saying the Prime Minister has ‘lied’ to the country by claiming that his government has implemented one rank one pension (OROP) for defence personnel. He also described the Modi government as “anti-army”.

The AAP leaders hit out at the Centre and Delhi Police for allegedly ‘manhandling’ the family members of the deceased army veteran besides stopping Kejriwal and the deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia from meeting them. Kejriwal and Sisodia described their detention by police as ‘goondagardi’ and an ‘undeclared Emergency’ in Delhi.

“The Prime Minister is lying to the entire country claiming that OROP has been implemented. If it was implemented then why Ram Kishan had to commit suicide? The extent of the deceit of the BJP government over the issue is unprecedented,” Kejriwal said in a video message posted on the social media platforms.

Kejriwal said the cabinet could not hold a meeting on pollution due to police’s ‘hooliganism’.

He demanded that the Centre implement the Delhi government’s compensation policy of Rs1 crore to the families of martyrs across the country and that OROP be implemented in totality.

Later in the day, as the top leadership hit the streets over the issue, they questioned the Centre and Delhi Police over ‘stopping the AAP leaders from meeting the family of an army veteran who committed suicide”.

“PolicehavedetainedusatLady Hardinge hospital. For the first time experiencing what’s emergency.Goondagardiwithusisfine, butdon’tdothesamewithfamilyof the deceased,” tweeted Delhi labour minister Gopal Rai, who joined Kejriwal at the hospital.

“Is exposing the lies of PM on OROP a crime under IPC? Why were the family members of martyred ex-serviceman dragged and beaten up by Police?,” said AAP spokesperson Raghav Chadda.
