Fake call centre busted in west Delhi, 3 held

NEW DELHI: The police busted a fake call centre in west Delhi’s Nihal Vihar on Wednesday and arrested three persons involved in cheating people over the phone on the pretext of giving discounts on their credit cards.
The arrested are Joginder Singh, 30, Prakash, 23, and Gaurav Dubey, 24. Gaurav alias Gorey, who managed different SIM cards and bank accounts, is absconding. One laptop, ₹4.35 lakh, 17 mobile phones, 210 SIM cards of various service providers have been recovered from their possession.
Police said the trio made calls to various credit card holders to lure them with schemes.
The accused were earlier working in a call centre and knew the process of running a call centre and dealing with customers. They had also employed five girls to call the customers and were giving them a monthly salary of ₹12,000 each.
On October 18, Ram Kumar Joshi filed a complaint at Mehrauli police station alleging that he received a call and the caller introduced herself as Neha Sharma and asked him to redeem reward points on his Axis Bank Credit Card.
She also transferred the call to IVR (interactive voice response) wherein a person asked him to submit his Axis bank credit card details including the CVV number. Later, he came to know three unauthorised transactions amounting to ₹14,631 were made from his credit card.
Investigations into the complainant’s bank account revealed that an amount of ₹5,000 was transferred in ‘M Paisa Wallet’ and the remaining amount of ₹9,631 was transferred in ‘TTSL Mobile Wallet’ by using three different mobile numbers.
“During further investigation, it was revealed that the amount was transferred from TTSL Mobile Wallet to Punjab National Bank, Khatauli branch, in the account of one Joginder Singh, a resident of Muzzafar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh,” additional deputy commissioner of police (south), Nupur Prasad, said.
Police said Joginder was arrested and he disclosed that Gorey roped him in the business. Healsosaidthathewasgiven10% commission to use his bank accountfortransferringthecash. He further disclosed that Prakash is the kingpin of the racket.
Police laid a trap in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar and apprehended Prakash, a resident of Bihar. After meeting Dubey, Prakash left his job and started the call centre on July 1.
