Apple MacBook Pro likely to turn cheaper next yr
NEW DELHI: For all those miffed at Apple for pricing its latest MacBook Pro in the stratosphere, there may be some good news. KGI Securities analyst Kuo, considered the top authority on all things Apple, has written that the US company is likely to reduce prices in the second half of 2017, even while giving it a hardware refresh.
Apple launched its new series of 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro on October 27, which are equipped with Intel dual-core i5 and i7 processors respectively, in the price range of ₹129,900-1,55,900 for the 13” version and ₹2,05,900 for the 15” variant.
Noting that it is customary for Apple to launch devices at high prices and slash their prices in the following year, Kuo said Apple is also likely to launch a variant with 32GB RAM if Intel releases its Canonlake processors in time.
Moreover, he anticipates that as the USB-C market matures and the Touch Bar matures, customers would be encouraged to upgrade.
When contacted, the company declined to comment, but directed this correspondent to an interview of Apple executive Phil Schiller, in which he has said the primary reason behind Apple’s decision to not introduce a 32GB RAM option in the new MacBook Pro is due to its high power consumption.
He was talking about the technical challenges of creating a notebook that is lighter, thinner and faster than its predecessors.
The interview did not however contain any reference to the pricing of the device, which at ₹1,29,950 for the base model, has drawn adverse market reaction.
