MINISTRY PANEL FINDS OP JAISHA ALLEGATION­S UNTRUE

NEW DELHI: India marathon runner OP Jaisha’s allegation­s of ill-treatment during the Rio Olympics race are false, a twomember sports ministry probe panel has found. The report said Jaisha admitted she didn’t ask for personalis­ed drinks at water stations. Jaisha, who finished 89th in the heat and humidity, collapsed after finishing due to dehydratio­n and was briefly hospitalis­ed. She accused the Indian athletics officials of neglecting her.

KHANNA WITHDRAWS

NEW DELHI: Veteran sports administra­tor Anil Khanna decided to withdraw his candidatur­e as president of All India Tennis Associatio­n (AITA), saying an acrimoniou­s relationsh­ip with the government will only hurt the game. Khanna was elected president for a second term (2012-16) at AITA’s AGM in Indore on September 3 but he had refused the post, citing ambiguity on cooling off period as per the Sports Code.

RUTHVIKA CRASHES OUT SAARBRUCKE­N: Shuttler Ruthvika Shivani Gadde suffered a 16-21 13-21 defeat at thehands of He Bingjiao of China in the prequarter­finals of the women’s singles event at the Bitburger Open GP Gold tournament here.

LAHIRI FALTERS

ANTALYA: Anirban Lahiri, who had a bout of food poisoning a day earlier, seemed to have recovered well as he started in style with three birdies in four holes before collapsing on the back nine at the Turkish Airlines Open golf tournament here on Thursday. Lahiri was four-under through the first nine holes, before crashing to four bogeys and a final double on 18th to finish at one-over 72. He was lying Tied-58th.
