IN THE FIR FILED REGARDING SHAMNATH BAGHEL’S MURDER, TWO DELHI PROFESSORS HAVE BEEN NAMED

NEW DELHI: The Chhattisgarh police have sent teams to Delhi in connection with the probe related to the murder of Bastar resident Shamnath Baghel.

In the FIR filed by Baghel’s wife, two Delhi professors, among others, have been named in a case related to his murder. Baghel was allegedly stabbed by alleged Maoists outside his house in Nama village on Friday.

Nandini Sundar and Archana Prasad were booked for murder, criminal conspiracy and rioting, Bastar region inspector-general, SRP Kalluri said. He added, “Strongest possible action will be taken against those guilty after the investigation”.

Sundar is a professor of sociology at Delhi University, while Prasad is the chairperson of the Centre for Informal Sector and Labour studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University.

University officials said Sundar and Prasad are reportedly on leave. While Sundar reportedly left the country a week ago (before Baghel was murdered), Prasad is learnt to have applied for leave on Tuesday afternoon.

“She has applied for leave from Wednesday to Friday. We think she will join the university only next week because the centre is closed on weekends.”

HT tried to contact Sundar and Prasad, but their phones were switched off.

Kalluri said , “They have been served legal notice to join the investigation. The investigating officer must have given them a time and date. The allegations against them are heinous If they do not join investigation, we will act and even get a warrant issued.”

On Tuesday, the two women denied the allegations. HTC
