Cong, AAP, Didi worry over impact on common man
NEW DELHI: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi questioned the introduction of `2000 notes while Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar backed the decision. Some other Opposition CMs, however, slammed the Centre for causing inconvenience to people.
Questioning how the `2000 note will make black money hoarding harder, Gandhi tweeted, “Once again Mr Modi shows how little he cares about ordinary people of this country-farmers, small shopkeepers, housewivesall thrown into utter chaos”.
Nitish Kumar supported the withdrawal of some banknotes saying it would help the economy in the long run. CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury maintained that the government’s decision neither addresses the major source of black money stashed abroard, nor those who invested in property or gold.
Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh said, “Modi ka Tughlaki farman kisaanon, gareeb aadmi ke peet pe hathoda hai (Modi’s directive is a blow to farmers and the poor).”
DMK chief Karunanidhi welcomed the decision but said the Congress’ views cannot be brushed aside. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee urged the Centre to rescind the decision. “Please save people from this disaster. Chaos everywhere,” she said in a statement.
This is really a very bold step of the government to curb corruption. We appreciate it. This decision may create problems for a few days but in the long term, it will definitely benefit us
