NEW DELHI: The same killer could be behind the murder of two women — one whose decapitated corpse was found in a south Delhi sewer on November 25, and another whose mutilated body was recovered around 100 meters away a week before.

RP Upadhyay, joint commissioner of police (southeastern range), suspected that both the Munirka murders were connected because the women knew each other.

“We have identified the two deceased, though the head of one of them is yet to be traced. Both of them were brutally murdered over a monetary dispute. We are close to cracking the case. The prime accused has been identified,” he said.

On November 18, the first body was found at 4.30am near the Baba Gang Nath temple at Munirka village. A passerby spotted the body inside a white plastic bag that was covered with a black polythene bag near a wall.

A week later, the headless corpse of a woman —possibly in her mid-30s — with a tattoo of a leaf on the lower side of her neck was pulled out of a sewer on the ground floor of a Munirka building.

Initial probe indicated the body was dumped there almost a week ago.

Investigators were scratching their heads as four women’s corpses and one of a man were found in south Delhi over the past two weeks. Three of them were mutilated and hacked.
