US woman’s gang rape: Tourist guide questioned

The tourist guide is being questioned to verify the allegations made against him by the American woman. If found guilty, he will be arrested. He could also help us locate the other four suspects.

NEW DELHI: The tourist guide, one of the five men who have been accused of allegedly drugging, thrashing, raping and threatening an American tourist at a five star hotel in Connaught Place in April, surfaced on Wednesday and joined investigation.

The police said he was in Nepal with a group of foreign tourists when they received the complaint that was sent by a US-based NGO on her behalf through an email to the police.

Dependra Pathak, Delhi Police spokesperson, confirmed that the tourist guide, who is from Rajasthan, appeared before the investigating officer in the evening.

“He is being questioned to verify the allegations made against him by the American woman. If found guilty, he will be arrested. He could also DEPENDRA PATHAK, Delhi Police spokesperson help us locate the other four suspects,” said Pathak.

The police have already contacted the woman over phone and received a fresh and detailed complaint from her in connection with the crime that occurred at the hotel during her tour to India in April.

She has agreed to come to India again in a week to record her statement and complete other legal formalities, said police.

In her complaint, a police officer said, the woman has alleged that she was violated more than once at the hotel by the tourist guide. She also accused the five of allegedly subjecting her to unnatural sex and threatening her with dire consequences if she reported the crime to the police.

In the complaint, she has mentioned that the five had told her that they had victimized more foreign tourists in the past but no of them had raised voice against them.

Investigators have learnt that after the crime the American woman had stayed for almost a week in India, touring Agra and Jaipur with the group of foreign tourists of which she was a part. The police are making efforts to nab the other four who have been named in the case.
