Constable attacked with knife by 2 ‘drunk’ men in south Delhi

Delhi Police constable was allegedly stabbed with a knife by two men in south Delhi’s Masjid Moth area on Sunday. Both accused have been apprehende­d, police said.

The victim has been identified as constable Ashok Kumar. He sustained injury on his head, police said. The accused have been identified as Dinesh Kumar (21) and Yogesh Kumar (23). Both are brothers.

The incident occurred when Kumar was on his patrolling duty in Masjid Moth. He came across Dinesh and Yogesh, who were sitting in a public park, and were allegedly drunk. When Kumar questioned them, one of them allegedly attacked hit him with a knife.

“When the constable started to question the men, they began arguing with him. Later, one of the men took out a knife from his pocket and attacked the constable, who ducked for cover but sustained a cut on his head,” said a senior police official.

The accused tried to flee from the spot. One of them was caught by Kumar, and a call was made to the police. “Kumar apprehende­d one of the accused on the spot. The police then reached the spot and apprehende­d the other accused. The knife used in the crime has also been recovered from the spot,” the officer said.

“The constable is out of danger, has sustained a three-inch cut on his head. A case has been registered under relevant sections of IPC at Hauz Khas police station,” the official added. HTC
