He insisted that “achhe din” — or good days that the BJP promised during its 2014 parliamentary poll campaign — will come when the Congress returns to power in 2019.

Addressing the party convention at a jam-packed Talkatora Stadium in the Capital, Gandhi accused the BJP and RSS of “creating an atmosphere of fear” among the people, but asserted that the Congress will defeat their ideology and remove them from power.

The BJP’s response was swift. “Forget 2019, it will not even be able to come back to power in 2090,” Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu said.

Gandhi alleged that Modi had turned the hard-earned money of the people of this country into paper through his shock recall of twohigh-valuenoteslastNovember.

“Never before has every single economist of repute called the prime minister’s decision as incompetent and ill-conceived,” he said in his 21-minute speech.
