The twoday lok adalat will provide BYPL customers residing in East and Central Delhi an opportunity to settle their power theft cases amicably and on the sport, relating to both Direct Theft (DT) and Meter Tampering (DAE).

NEW DELHI:: To encourage people to get metered power connections, discoms in Delhi will launch a one-time settlement scheme for redressing power theft cases.

More than 30,000 consumers of East and Central Delhi are likely to benefit from the onetime scheme, where any power theft case would be treated with penalties.

Discom BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) has associated with Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) to organisethe two-day special ‘Lok Adalat’ that would be held on Saturday and Sunday.

“The two-day Lok Adalat will provide BYPL customers residing in East and Central Delhi an opportunity to settle their power theft cases amicably and on the sport, relating to both Direct Theft (DT) and Meter Tampering (DAE),” a BSES spokesperson said. “Cases that are either pending or are yet to be filed in any court of law, will be taken up by the Lok Adalat,” the spokesperson added.

The maximum number of such cases are from the Daryaganj division. This is followed by Yamuna Vihar, G T Nagar, Paharganj, Nand Nagri and Chandani Chowk divisions.

For convenience of the litigants, BYPL will facilitate consumers to apply for on-the-spot re-connection or new-connec- tions, after ‘settling’ the case and paying their dues at the Lok Adalat. Moreover, those who pay their ‘settled’ dues within 7 days will be given additional benefits.

“To reduce the response time to dispose off cases, a total of 18 Courts will be set up for the purpose. Customers can either attend in person or send their advocates or authorised representatives,” an official said.

They should carry their Photo Id and a copy of their theft bill,” the official added. Consumers will be given sufficient time to pay their bills at the designated BYPL Enforcement offices. After that, they will get the No Dues Certificate,” the official added.

The Lok Adalat will be organised from 10 am to 4 pm at two places simultaneously – at the District Court, Karkardooma and at the permanent Lok Adalat Building, ITO.
