THE WOMAN WAS FOUND DEAD ON THE ROADSIDE NEXT TO A DRAIN IN TIMARPUR. THERE WERE NO EXTERNAL INJURIES ON HER BODY BARRING A WOUND TO HER LEG

NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old woman whose body was found on the roadside in North Delhi’s Timarpur on Monday may have died of cold, police said after identifying her after two days of investigation.

Jatin Narwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), said the woman was mentally-challenged and under supervision of a psychiatrist for the last sixseven years. Ruling out murder in the case, police said it was most likely that the woman died of extreme cold as she appeared to have stayed without a roof for long hours. “Her autopsy report has not indicated any foul play. The initial reports have suggested that she could have died of cold. We are still waiting for the final autopsy and viscera reports,” said an investigator.

Identified as Priya, the woman was found dead on the roadside next to a drain in Timarpur. There were no external injuries on her body barring a wound to her leg which police suspect she may have sustained in a casual fall. However, there was froth emanating from her mouth when her body was found by a passerby.

“The woman was in the habit of leaving her home without informing anyone. In the past too, she had stayed away from home for days together,” said the DCP. So, when the woman walked out of her home on Sunday after locking her house from outside, her mother and brother thought it was yet another such incident they were used to. So, her family did not even think of reporting the matter to the police when she did not return that night.

Once the body was recovered the next day, the police began their procedure for identifying the woman. It was finally her photograph circulated by the police that drew the attention of someone known to her.
