NEW DELHI: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held a protest march on Thursday calling it “Save DU” at the arts faculty near the iconic Vivekanand statue. The group said their protest for the past two days was an effort to keep DU away from anti-nationals and to send them the message, “if anyone thinks of breaking the nation, we will tear them apart”.

With slogans “Doodh mangoh geh toh kheer denge, desh torne ki baat karoge toh chir denge (if you ask me for milk, we will give you a sweetdish, if you talk about breaking the country, we will kill you)”, “bharat mata ki jai (Hail Mother India)”, the group of around 60-70 students also marched towards Ramjas College.

“The entire event at Ramjas College was only to defame DU. I fail to understand, what freedom do these communists want? India is already a free country and so is Kashmir. I fail to understand what freedom are they asking for?” said Amit Tanwar, president, DU Students’ Union (DUSU).

Although, the protest lasted for close to 90 minutes, the group said they will not spare anyone who tries to carry out anti-national activities in DU.

Meanwhile, the street play competition at SGTB Khlasa College in North Campus was cancelled. The teacher-in-charge of the play said that the student union, led by ABVP, objected to some plays as they were shedding a light on the ‘discourse of nationalism’. “The police also appealed to the college to call off the event in the interest of restoring peace and normalcy,” said Saikat Ghosh, staff advisor of the theatre society in the college.

However, Tanwar claimed that the principal asked for his views before staging the play.“I told him if anything anti-national was there we will have an issue and they should not allow the screening of it,” he said.

We should not convert any college into antiIndia hub... We have fundamental rights but fundamental duties are also there to be adhered to.
