Three firemen from Delhi Fire Services were injured during a firefighting bid at a cardboard factory in outer Delhi’s Najafgarh early on Monday.

The injured workers were Ram Kumar, Anil Kumar and Arvind Dagar. They received grievous burn injuries on their face, legs and arms.

Fire officials said that they received a call at 4.10am about the blaze at a cardboard factory in Najafgarh. Eight water tender vehicles were rushed to the spot. The flames were doused within 30 minutes.

Six persons, who were sleeping on the first floor of the factory, were rescued. During the operation, fireman Ram was hit by a fire ball, while Anil and Arvind lost consciousness due to asphyxiation.

“The three firemen are currently undergoing treatment at Ganga Ram Hospital. No other casualty was reported,” said Atul Garg, chief fire officer.

Ram and Anil works at Janakpuri fire station, while Arvind works at Najafgarh station.

Officials said that a short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire. However, they are awaiting the final report to make any further comments on it.

“The incident occurred in the 500 square yard basement of the cardboard factory. The cause of fire can be ascertained only after police probe,” an official said.

This incident comes three days after two firemen were killed, while their two colleagues were critically injured in a cylinder blast at a restaurant in west Delhi’s Vikaspuri on Friday morning. A fire broke out due to the blast and other firemen took around an hour to douse the flames. The deceased were identified as Hari Om Gahlot (49) and Hari Singh Meena (48), while Naveen (32) and Ravinder (33) were injured.
