ABVP marches against ‘JNU communists’
TIRANGA RALLY Organisers of the march say won’t allow Delhi University to become JNU part 2, blame Leftleaning groups for violence over Ramjas event
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad-led Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) took out a “Tiranga Rally” demanding action against students from Left-leaning groups accusing them of indulging in violence during a protest held on February 22.
Calling it a “march for the nation”, students led by DUSU leaders marched from Ramjas College to Arts Faculty, carrying a national flag.
Ankit Singh Sangwan, general secretary DUSU, said the march was against communists and outsiders who had come to DU and misbehaved with students.
Speaking at the Vivekananda statue in Arts Faculty, Sangwan said DU students love their country and they won’t let DU become ‘JNU part 2’.
“We are patriots and country lovers and if someone raises a finger against our country we will not tolerate it. The way they tried to poison JNU, they are trying to do the same at DU. But we will not let it happen. DU students are aware and if someone tries to raise a finger at India that finger will be chopped off and they won’t be allowed to speak,” he said.
Satinder Awana, former DUSU president, said the rally was called by common students who asked DUSU to lead it. He said students will not tolerate any antinational activity in the university.
“Students are against those who organised the event and called Umar Khalid. We want action against those from the Left student organisations who indulged in violence and beat up common students. Action should be taken against teachers who raised anti-national slogans at Ramjas College,” he said.
During the march, students raised slogans against Left-leaning students’ organisation such as All India Students Association (AISA) and alleged that students from JNU had come to the campus on Wednesday and indulged in violence.
On February 22, clashes erupted between two groups of students — one led by Left-leaning students’ organisations such as AISA and another led by ABVP.
Some students, including AISA members and teachers had accused ABVP of indulging in violence during the protest.
The protest march was led by AISA and other students’ organisation against ABVP over cancellation of an event in which JNU student Umar Khalid was invited.
Meanwhile, Rashtrawadi Shikshak Sangh, a teachers’ organisation also staged a silent protest at Arts Faculty on Monday demanding a “check on abuse of freedom of speech and expression by the Left-groups”.
