NEW DELHI :Rajeev Rishi, brother of AAP legislator Rajesh Rishi, was arrested on Monday a for allegedly assaulting and molesting an elderly woman over a parking dispute in southwest Delhi’s Dabri area on Sunday.

Rajeev Rishi also allegedly assaulted the woman’s husband when he tried to intervene and save his wife. Police said the couple had raised questions over AAP workers parking their vehicles in the area, obstructing traffic and creating a nuisance by consuming alcohol on the road, when an argument between them ensued.

“Many AAP volunteers visiting the legislator’s house requesting tickets for the MCD election, crowded the area and parked their cars in a wrong manner, choking the traffic. The couple alleged that the men created nuisance hindering the free movement of the residents. They complained that when they objected to it, they were attacked,” a police officer said. “The couple said they went to meet Rajeev Rishi to discuss the parking problems but instead got manhandled. The entire incident was captured on mobile phones by some residents,” he added.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Surender Kumar confirmed the arrest of Rajeev Rishi and his friend Satish Yadav on charges of molesting the woman and attacking her husband.

Rajesh Rishi, legislator from Janakpuri, denied the charges against his brother and said the police were acting under pressure from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He said his brother never attacked anyone and that it was the brother who was assaulted.

“What do you do when people forcefully enter your home and start abusing you? We called the police and filed a complaint first,” he said.

These firms take care of the maintenance of these machines. About ₹14,000 crore is carried every day by cash vans across India.

Typically five people — including a driver, two security personnel and two “cash custodians” — travel in a cash van. While the guards wait outside the ATM , the two “custodians” have two different passwords that they use to open the ATM.

These combinations are often not kept a secret and both custodians know each other’s passwords.

“These people can come back anytime to indulge in mischief and operate ATMs,” said Rao.

“The BJP teaches ABVP to use rape as an acceptable response to women fighting for free speech. The ABVP threatens women who speak their mind with rape threats,” Kaur said.

“Every political party needs to understand that students don’t want threats of violent and hate in educational institutions. On Tuesday, we will sound the death knell to hate politics in educational institutions…”

Some are calling the proposed march a protest against the rape threat; others have named it “Fight Back, DU”.

“We are putting up a united front against the ABVP,” said Kawalpreet Kaur, a leader of the Left-leaning AISA which was involved in last Wednesday’s clashes with right-wing students over a force-cancelled seminar at Ramjas College.

The protests began after a literary event at Ramjas College was called off as the ABVP objected to an invite to controversial JNU students Umar Khalid and Shehla Rashid to speak at the seminar. Khalid was accused of organizing an event at JNU last year in which anti-India slogans were heard.

Unhappy with the ABVP’s protest, students and teachers called a counter-demonstration last Wednesday and that turned into a street punch-up.

The Ramjas unrest had its effect on a proposed street play competition at Khalsa College, which had to be postponed.

Tuesday’s march will begin from Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur (SGTB) Khalsa College and end at the arts faculty building of DU.

With #FightbackDU and #DUagainstGoondagardi as slogans and hashtags, the protest is against the stalling of the street play competition at the college on February 23. The competition was put on hold allegedly after the ABVP objected to the content of some plays.

The National Students Union of India, the student wing of the Congress, has called a separate Mashaal rally. They will also hold a daylong hunger strike.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has retweeted Kaur’s post, asking students to join the march.
